Scenario 1: Obama and Hillary get up to the Democratic Convention with him still ahead on delegates, but without enough to clinch the nomination. Result: a "brokered" convention, in which most of the "superdelegates" -- for the good of the country, and the party, and "the children" -- vote for Hillary. She wins the nomination, and the black community erupts, feeling that, once again, they've been conned and exploited by the white liberals who run things in the Democratic Party. (Meanwhile, Jesse and Al support the outcome, thus eliminating any residual doubts at to their roles as Uncle Toms to the white liberals.)
Scenario 2: Again, a brokered convention. But, anticipating the above scenario, Obama supporters as well as unaffiliated blacks descend on Denver planning to demonstrate in the convention hall and in the street, in order to keep the cynical, white, machine politicians from crowning Hillary. But their efforts are of no avail, and as a result the demonstrations turn violent -- Chicago 1968 all over again, except with a different cast. The Democratic Party is -- again, as in 1968 -- shown up to be the fractured, hypocritical monstrosity that it is, and they lose the election, primarily because most blacks stay home in disgust.
Scenario 3: Again, a brokered convention and the black community descending on Denver. This time it works, and Obama is nominated. White liberals commiserate with one another, agreeing that, well, civil rights and all that are prefectly OK, but surely we didn't expect anything like _this_ to happen! Who do these people think they are? Jackson and Sharpton retire to Haiti. And -- oh yes -- Obama wins.
Well? Don't say it couldn't happen -- part of it already has, i.e. it looks like a brokered convention is unavoidable and that it will, indeed, be the superdelegates who make the difference. They are, of course, overwhelmingly on the side of the Democratic "establishment" and not on the side of any real "change" -- except, of course, in administrations. But, who knows, "long, hot summer" threats have gotten their attention in the past, and they could again.

Perhaps the Clintons invented the "superdelegate" system anticipating needing an extra "push" to get Hillary in the white house...very clever...
To see how this prophecy of mine is coming to fruition, read the Robert Novak column for March 25, entitled "Deepening Democrat dilemma". His point is that, essentially, Obama has responded to the Clintons' efforts to portray him as "black" by saying, in effect, "Yeah, I'm black, what of it? Come on out here and let's settle this right now." It's Hillary's move. Don't you just love it?
