Obama Loses Backbone, Feels Much Better

Jonah Goldberg, the Cabbage Patch Kid of the Neocons, is now theorizing that Obama's (assuming he gets in) Iraq policy might end up being the same as Bush's. [pause -- "What did I tell ya weeks ago?" -- move on] This is supposedly based on the advice of "foreign policy experts", and Obama's own foreign policy advisors, who apparently think that precipitous withdrawal from Iraq -- as precipitous, let's say, as our invasion of Iraq was -- would simply "not survive contact with post-election reality". Hey, forget about "post-election reality" -- how about "pre-election reality"? Obama has already, along with Hillary (in case he gets shot -- well, that's what she said! Her words, not mine.), burned incense at the pagan altar of AIPAC, promising to hold out in the Near East to the last man and the last dollar. Everything else is detail. A recent AP article adds to the feeling of resignation, by describing how "Obama opens door to altering his Iraq policy". Which is another way of saying, we're not leaving, not now, not ever, forget about it. Which, in my mind, raises the question of why anyone would want to vote for Obama, since the main thing that he seemed willing to change has now assumed the status of the never-to-be-questioned-in-our-lifetime. Of course, the Obama campaign is quick to "clarify" that this does not mean he is not still very anxious to get us out of there -- yes, and at the earliest possible moment... or year... or decade. Hey, let's face it -- he went toe-to-toe with the Israeli lobby and got all squishy, lost control of his bodily functions, and collapsed on the floor. He knows they can make him or break him. An old-fashioned encounter with the Mafia had nothing on this. "It's our way or the highway", and now that Obama knows this, loud and clear, there is not one (there was never more than one) remaining reason to vote for him. Hillary, of course, was co-opted years ago, and McCain never needed to be. Well, it's sad... but so typical. It would almost be scary if a politician in serious contention for the presidency actually stood up to the Israeli lobby. What would happen then? It would be interesting to find out. But we'll never get that chance.
