Don't Do, Ron Ron Ron!

From today's paper: "John McCain is negotiating to win the backing of Rep. Ron Paul and his supporters, reports The Washington Times." Just the thought of such a thing makes me ill and want to blow chunks. To begin with, no two positions could be further apart than McCain's and Paul's, when it comes to Iraq. McCain wants to make Iraq an American colony, and Paul doesn't think we should have gone over there in the first place. Then you've got a little thing called McCain-Feingold. And the shabby treatement Ron Paul has received from other Republicans not only during this election season but for years -- decades! And the fact that he (Paul) is putting on an "alternative convention" a stone's throw from the Republicans'. And the fact that Ron Paul has already run for president on the Libertarian ticket once, and... well, what's wrong with him endorsing Bob Barr? It would make a lot more sense than doing anything to support Mad John. No really, it's all too horrible. And "negotiating"? With whom? Anyone working with Ron Paul who thinks they can make common cause with John McCain ought to be shown the door. Plus -- what use do the Republicans have for the Ron Paul supporters and libertarians in general anyway? Do they really think that a couple measly percentage points can make the difference between victory and defeat? Oh wait, there was 2000 and 2004, I guess...

Thanks goodness! Ron Paul basically told the McCain people to get lost. How anyone -- Phil Gramm included -- could have imagined that Paul would have been willing to endorse McCain as the lesser of two evils is beyond me. See, Paul realizes something that Gramm does not, namely that the _regime_ is the enemy, and the regime includes both the major parties.
